This interactive three-hour program provides firefighters with a practical understanding of modern fire behavior and its impact on fireground operations. Through engaging classroom instruction and live burn box demonstrations, students will observe how heat, smoke, ventilation, fuel, compartment configuration, and tactical actions interact throughout the stages of fire development.
Rather than relying solely on textbook concepts, this course uses realistic demonstrations to show firefighters how fire responds to changes in ventilation, water application, compartment configuration, and fuel load. Participants will observe fire behavior in real time, allowing them to connect classroom principles with conditions encountered during emergency incidents.
Live burn box evolutions reinforce critical fire behavior principles by visually demonstrating fire growth, smoke production, heat movement, thermal layering, rollover, ventilation effects, flow paths, flashover indicators, door control, water application, and the influence of tactical actions on fire development.
By understanding why fire behaves the way it does, firefighters gain the confidence to recognize changing conditions earlier, improve situational awareness, and make better-informed tactical decisions during structure fires.
